Job Summary:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the investigation and resolution of complex claims related to damaged or lost cargo. The incumbent partners with internal teams and third-parties to gather pertinent information to minimize legal exposure and remain compliant with applicable policies, regulations, and contractual terms. This role will serve as a team lead to junior team members, lead initiatives when claims should be escalated to additional professionals, and provide settlement authority within set limits to promote efficient resolutions.

Key Responsibilities:
• Investigate complex claims thoroughly by gathering and analyzing relevant documents and information including bills of lading, shipping receipts, and insurance policies to assess claim validity and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and company policies.
• Review insurance certificates, contracts, and other pertinent documentation and contact insurance companies to begin subrogation efforts when available.
• Calculate settlement amounts for approved claims by analyzing documentation and applying appropriate regulations and policies; minimize legal risks by engaging legal counsel and assessing potential impact on precedents before issuing payments.
• Communicate findings, settlements, and decisions to all relevant internal and external parties including, but not limited to, claimants, legal teams, and insurance providers.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records through preparing detailed reports and summaries of all claims and their statuses for reference and audit purposes; monitor claims management systems and conduct reviews of files regularly and as needed.
• Evaluate cause, liability, and damage extent of the freight and equipment involved to identify opportunities for mitigation in order to resolve the claim.
• Notify internal teams, such as Sales, Customer Experience, and Operations, of reoccurring issues to determine root cause and mitigate future occurrences.
• Coordinate third-party adjusters to investigate claim circumstances, including, but not limited to, interviewing involved parties and conducting on-scene investigations into statutory responsibility while retaining and overseeing external experts, such as reconstructionist.
• Collaborate with legal counsel and other professionals for complex cases, providing insights and data to support legal proceedings.
• Train, mentor, coach, and onboard junior team members; assist management in coordinating tasks and training to improve department performance.
• Provide settlement authority within designated limits to junior team members to resolve outstanding claims.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
With 4-5 years of experience in Insurance, Claims, or Transportation/Logistics, or suitable combination of education, experience, and training, and/or military equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
With 4-5 years combination of education, experience, and training.

Knowledge of problem reporting and escalation practices.
Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Knowledge of claim investigation procedures.

Ability to capture and document relevant business information in an auditable, organized, and easily retrievable manner.
Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
Knowledge of approaches and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving problems.
Proficiency in documenting case details accurately and assessing payment eligibility.

Compensation:
Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
